315 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Abū Anas Mālik ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, saying: Baqiyyah ibn al-Walīd narrated to us, from Umar ibn Muhammad, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
“When Allah Most High revealed to His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, ‘For whoever among you wills to follow the straight path’ [al-Takwīr: 28] ⦗724⦘, they said, ‘The matter is up to us: if we wish, we will follow the straight path, and if we wish, we will not.’ Allah, Glorious and Exalted, then revealed: ‘Yet you do not will unless Allah, Lord of the worlds, wills.’”
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn said: “Take heed, O Muslims! Does a Qadarī have any argument in all that I have recited? No—nothing but forsakenness and wretchedness.”
