and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a concealed barrier. We have placed coverings over their hearts, preventing them from understanding it, and heaviness in their ears.” [al-Isrā’: 45]—to the end of the verse.

Allah Most High says in Sūrat al-Kahf:

“Who is more unjust than one who is reminded of his Lord’s signs but turns away from them and forgets what his own hands have sent ahead? We have placed coverings over their hearts, preventing them from understanding it, and heaviness in their ears. Even if you call them to guidance, they will never then be guided.” [al-Kahf: 57]

Allah Most High says in Sūrat al-Shu‘arā’:

“Had We revealed it to one of the non-Arabs and he recited it to them, they still would not have believed in it. Thus We have caused it to enter the hearts of the evildoers. They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment.” [al-Shu‘arā’: 198]

Allah Most High says in Sūrat Yā Sīn:

“The decree has indeed come due against most of them, so they do not believe. We have placed shackles around their necks, reaching to their chins, so their heads are forced back. We have placed a barrier before them and a barrier behind them, and covered them over, so they cannot see. It is all the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them: they will not believe.” [Yā Sīn: 7]

Allah Most High says in Hā Mīm al-Jāthiyah:

“Have you seen the one who takes his own desire as his god, whom Allah has led astray with full knowledge, sealed his hearing and heart, and placed a veil over his sight? Who, then, can guide him after Allah? Will you not take heed?” [al-Jāthiyah
