33 — Ibn Abd al-Hamīd also narrated to us. He said: Zuhayr ibn Muhammad narrated to us. He said: Ismāīl ibn Abī Uways informed us. He said: Kathīr ibn Abd Allāh ibn Amr ibn Awf al-Muzanī narrated to us, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: We were seated around the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—in his mosque in Medina when Gabriel—peace be upon him—came to him with revelation. He then related a lengthy hadith, in which he said, “Gabriel—peace be upon him—has come to you to renew your religion. You will surely follow the course of those before you, matching them as one sandal matches its mate, and you will surely do exactly as they did: span for span, cubit for cubit, and armspan for armspan—so much so that if they entered a lizard’s burrow, you would enter it too.”
