He said:

305 — Abū Muhammad Yahyā ibn Muhammad ibn Sāʿid narrated to us, saying: Yūsuf al-Qattān narrated to us, saying: Jarīr narrated to us, from ʿAtā' ibn al-Sā'ib, from al-Zuhrī, who said: ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwān said to me, “There is the hadith reported from the Prophet—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him—: ‘Whoever dies without associating anything with Allah will enter Paradise, even if he commits adultery and even if he steals.’” He said: I replied, “Where are you going with this, O Commander of the Faithful? This was before the commands and prohibitions, and before the obligations.”

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah Most High have mercy upon him—said: May Allah have mercy upon you, beware of the position of those who say that their faith is like the faith of Gabriel and Michael, and of those who say, “I am a believer in Allah’s sight,” or, “I am a believer whose faith is complete.” All of this is the doctrine of the Murji'ah.
