264 — Abū Bakr Abd Allāh ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Hamīd al-Wāsitī narrated to us, saying: Abū al-Hasan Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Abī Bazza narrated to us, saying: I heard al-Mu’ammal ibn Ismā’īl say, “Faith consists of profession and deeds; it increases and decreases.”
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, may Allah have mercy on him, said: What I have mentioned is sufficient for anyone for whom Allah, Mighty and Majestic, wills good, so that he realizes that his faith cannot be complete without deeds. This is the religion of which Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says:
“They were commanded only to worship Allah, devoting their religion sincerely to Him, inclining to truth; to establish prayer and give zakāh. That is the upright religion.” [al-Bayyina: 5]
