263 — Ibn Makhlad also narrated to us, saying: Abū Dāwūd narrated to us, saying: Ahmad narrated to us, saying: Ibrāhīm ibn Shammās narrated to us, saying: I heard Jarīr ibn Abd al-Hamīd say, “Faith consists of profession and deeds; it increases and decreases.” Ibrāhīm ibn Shammās said: I also asked Baqiyya ibn al-Walīd and Abū Bakr ibn Ayyāsh, and they both said, “Faith consists of profession and deeds.” ⦗643⦘ Ibrāhīm said: I asked Abū Ishāq al-Fazārī, “Does faith consist of profession and deeds?” He replied, “Yes.” He said: I also heard Ibn al-Mubārak say, “Faith consists of profession and deeds.”
