244 — Khalaf ibn ʿAmr al-ʿUkbarī informed us, saying: Al-Humaydī narrated to us, saying: I heard Ibn ʿUyayna say, “Faith consists of speech and action; it increases and decreases.” His brother, Ibrāhīm ibn ʿUyayna, said to him, “Abū Muhammad, do not say that it increases and decreases.” Ibn ʿUyayna became angry and said, “Be quiet, boy! Indeed it does—until none of it remains.”
