2070 — Al-Firyābī also informed us: ‘Abd Allāh ibn Abī Sa‘d narrated to us: Al-Haytham ibn Khārija narrated to us: ‘Abd Allāh ibn al-Sā’ib al-Ash‘arī, ⦗2560⦘ a native of Homs, narrated to us from Ibrāhīm ibn Abī ‘Abla, who said: I was with ‘Ubāda ibn Nusayy when a man came to him and informed him that the Commander of the Faithful, Hishām, had cut off Ghaylān’s hand and tongue and crucified him. He asked him, “Is what you say true?” He replied, “Yes.” He said, “By Allah, he acted in accordance with the Sunnah and sound judgment. I shall certainly write to the Commander of the Faithful and commend him for what he has done.”
