2067 — Al-Firyābī then informed us: Ishāq ibn Mūsā al-Ansārī narrated to us: Abū Damra Anas ibn ‘Iyād narrated to us: Abū Suhayl Nāfi‘ ibn Mālik ibn Abī ‘Āmir narrated to me that he said: ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Azīz—may Allah have mercy on him—said to me, from his own mouth into my ears, “What do you say concerning those who claim that there is no divine decree?” I replied, “I believe they should be called upon to repent. If they repent, well and good; otherwise, they should be beheaded.” He said: ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Azīz then said, “That is the position to take regarding them. By Allah, were there nothing but this verse, it would suffice: ‘Indeed, you and whatever you worship cannot lure anyone away from Him except one who is ⦗2558⦘ to burn in the Blaze.’” [al-Sāffāt: 162]
