2061 — Ibn ‘Abd al-Hamīd al-Wāsitī narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allāh al-Mukharrimī narrated to us, saying: Sa‘īd ibn ‘Āmir narrated to us, from Harb ibn Maymūn, from Khuwayl, who said: “I was with Yūnus ibn ‘Ubayd when a man came to him and said, ‘You forbid us to sit with ‘Amr ibn ‘Ubayd, yet this son of yours is with him!’ Not long afterward, his son arrived, and Yūnus said, ‘My son, you know my view of ‘Amr, yet you still go to him?’ He replied, ‘I went with so-and-so.’ Yūnus said, ‘My son, I forbid you to commit fornication, theft, and drink wine; yet I would rather you met Allah—Glorious and Exalted is He—having committed those sins than meet Him holding the views of ‘Amr and ‘Amr’s companions.’”
