2060 — Al-Firyābī also narrated to us, saying: ‘Abbās al-‘Anbarī narrated to us, saying: I heard Ahmad ibn Yūnus say, “I saw Zuhayr ibn Mu‘āwiyah come to Zā’idah ibn Qudāmah and speak to him ⦗2551⦘ on behalf of a man, asking him to narrate hadith to the man. Zā’idah asked, ‘Is he one of Ahl al-Sunnah?’ Zuhayr replied, ‘I do not know him to follow any religious innovation.’ Zā’idah said, ‘That is not enough! Is he one of Ahl al-Sunnah?’ Zuhayr asked, ‘Since when have people been like this?’ Zā’idah replied, ‘And since when have people been insulting Abū Bakr and ‘Umar—may Allah be pleased with them both?’”
