2035 — Abū Saīd al-Arābī also narrated to us, saying: Yahyā ibn Abī Tālib narrated to us, saying: Amr ibn Abd al-Ghaffār narrated to us, saying: Shuba ibn al-Hajjāj reported from Abū al-Tayyāh, from Abū al-Sawwār al-Adawī, who said: I heard Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—say: “Some people will surely love me, yet their love for me will cause them to enter the Fire; and some people will surely hate me, and their hatred for me will cause them to enter the Fire.” ⦗2535⦘

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: Everything we have mentioned makes it clear to anyone who properly understands the teachings of Allah—mighty and majestic—His Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and Alī’s position concerning Abū Bakr, Umar, Uthmān—may Allah Most High be pleased with them—and all the other Companions, that the Rāfidites are in the worst state of all people; that they are lying evildoers; and that Alī—may Allah be pleased with him—and his pure descendants are innocent of the claims the Rāfidites ascribe to them. A person who loves Alī—may Allah be pleased with him—and thereby hopes for reward from Allah—mighty and majestic—is one who also loves Abū Bakr, Umar, Uthmān, and all the Companions—may Allah be pleased with them. Whoever is not such cannot truly claim to love Alī—may Allah be pleased with him. Allah, the Most Generous, has absolved Alī—may Allah be pleased with him—and his pure descendants of the doctrines of the filthy, impure Rāfidites.

We also say that whoever hates Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—will not benefit from his love for Abū Bakr, Umar, and Uthmān. Rather, in our view, he is a hypocrite, as the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said to Alī—may Allah be pleased with him: “Only a believer loves you, and only a hypocrite hates you.” This is our doctrine; through it we worship Allah—mighty and majestic—and this is what we instruct our brothers to follow. Allah alone grants success.
