Abū Sa'īd narrated to us, saying: Ishāq ibn Yahyā al-Dihqān narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Ubayd narrated to us, saying: Abd Allah ibn Hakīm ibn Ja'far narrated to us from his father, who said: I was in a gathering attended by a group of Shi'a, and some of them spoke disparagingly of Abū Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). I said, “Whoever says this—may Allah curse him!” A man from the group said, “We learned it from Abū Ja'far.” He continued: I then met Abū Ja'far and asked, “What do you say concerning Abū Bakr and Umar?” He replied, “And what do people say concerning them?” I said, “They belittle them.” He replied, “Only renegades say that. Show them the same loyalty that you show the Commander of the Faithful, Alī ibn Abī Tālib (may Allah be pleased with him).”
