Abū Bakr Abd Allāh ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Hamīd al-Wāsitī also narrated to us, saying: Fadl ibn Sahl al-Araj narrated to us, saying: Shabāba ibn Sawwār narrated to us, saying: Khārija ibn Musab narrated to us, from Sallām ibn Abī al-Qāsim, from Uthmān ibn Abī Uthmān, who said:
Some Shiites came to Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—and said, “O Commander of the Faithful, are you He?”
He asked, “Who is He?”
They replied, “He.”
He said, “Woe to you! Who am I?”
They replied, “You are our Lord.”
He said, “Turn back and repent.” They refused, so he struck off their heads. He then dug a trench for them in the ground and said, “O Qanbar, bring me bundles of firewood.” Qanbar brought him bundles, and he burned them with fire. He then said:

When I saw this matter had become abhorrent,
My fire was kindled, and I summoned Qanbar.
Abū Saīd Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ziyād al-Arābī narrated to us, saying: Abū Yahyā al-Darīr narrated to us, saying: Shabāba ibn Sawwār narrated to us, saying: Khārija ibn Musab narrated to us, from Sallām ibn Abī al-Qāsim, from Uthmān ibn Abī Uthmān, who said:
Some Shiites came to Alī—may Allah be pleased with him—and he related the same hadith through to its end.
