2033 — Abū Ubayd Alī ibn al-Husayn ibn Harb, the judge, informed us, saying: Abū al-Sikkīn Zakariyyā ibn Yahyā ibn Umar ibn Hisn ibn Humayd ibn Munhib ibn Hāritha narrated to us, saying: Abū Ayyūb Sulaymān ibn Dāwūd al-Hāshimī narrated to me, saying: Khālid ibn Amr ibn Muhammad al-Umawī—who was the paternal uncle of Abd al-Azīz ibn Abān—narrated to us, from Sahl ibn Mālik al-Ansārī, ⦗2509⦘ from his father, from his grandfather, who said:

When the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings of Allah be upon him—returned from the Farewell Pilgrimage, he ascended the pulpit, praised Allah, and extolled Him. He then said:

“O people, Abū Bakr has never caused me any displeasure, so recognize that to his credit. O people, I am pleased with Umar ibn al-Khattāb, Uthmān ibn Affān, Alī ibn Abī Tālib, Talha ibn Ubayd Allah, al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwām, Saʿd ibn Mālik, Abd al-Rahmān ibn Awf, and the earliest Emigrants, so recognize that to their credit. O people, Allah—Mighty and Majestic—has forgiven those who were present at Badr and al-Hudaybiyya. O people, show due regard for me in your treatment of my sons-in-law, my other relatives by marriage, and my Companions. Do not let Allah—Mighty and Majestic—call you to account for wronging any one of them, for such a wrong is not one that will be waived. O people, refrain from speaking ill of Muslims. When a man dies, say nothing but good about him.”

He then descended.

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn said: I have cited enough in this chapter to satisfy anyone who understands. Allah—Mighty and Majestic—thereby protects him from ⦗2510⦘ reviling the Companions of the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings of Allah be upon him—and he loves them and seeks forgiveness for them. I have also established proof against anyone who reviles them, so that he may know that he has been deprived of divine guidance, has strayed from the path of right guidance, and has been made a plaything by the devils. May Allah banish him and cast him far from His mercy.
