1984—Ibn Abd al-Hamīd narrated to us, saying: Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm al-Dawraqī narrated to us, saying: Hakkām ibn Salm al-Rāzī narrated to us, from Amr ibn Abī Qays, from Abd Rabbih, who said: Al-Hasan was in a gathering and spoke for a while. When the Companions of Muhammad—peace and blessings of Allah be upon him—were mentioned, he said: “Those were the Companions of Muhammad—peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. They were the most righteous in heart of this nation, the deepest in knowledge, and the least given to affectation. They were a people whom Allah—Glorious and Exalted—chose to accompany His Prophet—peace and blessings of Allah be upon him—and to uphold His religion. So emulate their character and their ways, for, by the Lord of the Kaaba, they are upon straight guidance.”
