Whenever Muʿāwiya—may Allah be pleased with him—met al-Husayn ibn ʿAlī—may Allah be pleased with them both—he would say, “Welcome to the son of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—⦗2469⦘; a most cordial welcome!” He would then order that 300,000 be given to him. When he met Ibn al-Zubayr—may Allah be pleased with him—he would say, “Welcome to the son of the cousin and disciple of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace,” and would order that 100,000 be given to him.
