1955 – Abū Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn Shahrayār al-Balkhī narrated to us, saying: ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd al-Samad narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Warrāq narrated to me, saying: ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr narrated to me, saying: “I heard a man in Marw ask Ibn al-Mubārak, ‘Who is better: Muʿāwiya or ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz?’” He said: “Ibn al-Mubārak replied, ‘The dust that entered Muʿāwiya’s nose—may Allah be pleased with him—while he was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is better—or superior—to ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz.’”
