1941 — Abū Muhammad Abd Allah ibn Nājiya informed us: Muhammad ibn Rizq Allah al-Kalwadhānī narrated to us: Nuaym ibn Hammād al-Marwazī narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Shuayb ibn Shābūr narrated to us: Marwān ibn Janāh narrated to us: Yūnus ibn Maysara ibn Halbas narrated to us, from Abd Allah ibn Busr, that the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—consulted Abū Bakr and Umar—may Allah be pleased with them both—about a matter. They said to him, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then said, “Call Muāwiya to me.”

Abū Bakr and Umar—may Allah be pleased with them both—became angry and said, “Were the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and two men of Quraysh not enough to handle the Messenger of Allah’s affair, that he had to send for ⦗2458⦘ a young man from among the youths of Quraysh?”

The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, “Call Muāwiya to me.” When Muāwiya came and stood before him, he said to them both, “Include him in your deliberations and entrust him with your affair, for he is strong and trustworthy.”
