1930 — Abū Muhammad Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Nājiya informed us, saying: Rawh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, saying: Shabāba ibn Sawwār narrated to us, saying: Khārija ibn Musab narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn al-Sāib, from Abū Sālih, from Ibn Abbās, concerning this verse: “Perhaps Allah will bring about affection between you and those of them whom you have regarded as enemies” [al-Mumtahana: 7]. He said: The affection that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, brought about between them was the Prophet’s—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—marriage to Umm Habība, daughter of Abū Sufyān. Thus, Umm Habība became the Mother of the Believers, and Muāwiya the maternal uncle of the Believers.
