1922 — Al-Firyābī narrated to us, saying: Hishām ibn Ammār al-Dimashqī narrated to us, saying: Yahyā ibn Hamza narrated to us, saying: Thawr ibn Yazīd narrated to me, from Khālid ibn Madān, from Amr ibn al-Aswad, who told him that Ubāda ibn al-Sāmit came to him while he was on the coast of Homs, accompanied ⦗2441⦘ by his wife, Umm Harām. Amr said: Umm Harām narrated to us that she heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, “The first army from my nation to undertake a naval campaign will have earned Paradise.”

Umm Harām asked, “Will I be among them, O Messenger of Allah?”

He replied, “You will be among them.”

The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, then said, “The first army from my nation to campaign against Caesar’s city will be forgiven.”

Umm Harām asked, “Will I be among them?”

He replied, “No.”

Al-Firyābī said: Muāwiya was the first to undertake such a campaign, during the reign of Uthmān ibn Affān—may Allah have mercy on them both.
