1903 — Abū Saʿīd al-Mufaddal ibn Muhammad al-Jandī also informed us: Alī ⦗2416⦘ ibn Ziyād al-Lahjī narrated to us: Abū Qurra Mūsā ibn Tāriq narrated to us: Mālik ibn Anas related, from Abd al-Rahmān ibn al-Qāsim, from his father, from Aisha—may Allah have mercy on her—who said:

“We set out with the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—on one of his journeys. When we reached al-Baydāʾ—or Dhāt al-Jaysh—my necklace broke and fell off. The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—halted to search for it, and the people halted with him, though they were not near any water and had none with them.

“Abū Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him—came while the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—had fallen asleep with his head resting on my thigh. He said, ‘You have held back the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and the people when they are not near any water and have none with them!’ He reproached me and said whatever Allah willed him to say, all the while poking me in the side with his hand. Nothing prevented me from moving except that the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—was resting on my thigh.

“The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—slept until morning, when there was still no water. Allah—Glorious is His Majesty—then revealed the verse concerning dry ablution. Usayd ibn al-Hudayr said, ‘This is not the first blessing you have brought, O family of Abū Bakr.’”

She said, “We then made the camel I had been riding get up and found the necklace beneath it.”
