Al-Shariah li-al-AjurriAl-Ajurri

1861 — Ibn Abd al-Hamīd al-Wāsitī also narrated to us. He said: Fadl ibn Sahl al-Araj narrated to us. He said: Abū Ahmad al-Zubayrī narrated to us. He said: Fudayl ibn Marzūq narrated to us. He said: I heard Hasan ibn Hasan—may Allah be pleased with them both—say to a man of the Rāfidah: “By Allah, if ⦗2383⦘ Allah grants us power over you, your hands and feet will surely be cut off, and no repentance will be accepted from you.” He also said: I heard him say: “The Rāfidah have rebelled against us just as the Harūriyyah rebelled against Ali—may Allah be pleased with him.”

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: Whoever hears this from the Household should follow his righteous forebears and detest the doctrines of the Rāfidah, who possess neither reason nor religion.

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: It has been narrated that when death approached Abū Bakr al-Siddīq—may Allah be pleased with him—he said to them: “When I die and you have finished preparing me for burial, carry me until you reach the door of the chamber containing the Prophet’s grave—may Allah bless and grant him peace. Stand at the door and say: ‘Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah. Abū Bakr seeks permission to enter.’ If permission is granted to you, the door—which will be locked—is opened, then bring me in and bury me there. But if permission is not granted, take me out to al-Baqī and bury me there.”

They did so. When they stood at the door and said this, the lock fell off and the door opened. A disembodied voice was heard from inside the chamber saying: “Admit the beloved to the beloved, for the beloved longs for the beloved.” ⦗2384⦘

It has also been narrated that when Abū Luluah killed Umar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah’s curse be upon Abū Luluah—Umar made the provisions he wished concerning the caliph who would succeed him. He then said to his son Abd Allah: “O Abd Allah, go to the Mother of the Believers, Aishah—may Allah have mercy on her—and tell her: ‘Umar sends you greetings of peace.’ Do not say, ‘The Commander of the Believers,’ for today I am no longer the believers’ commander. Tell her: ‘He seeks permission to be buried alongside his two companions.’ If she grants permission, bury me with them; but if she refuses, return me to the Muslims’ cemetery.”

Abd Allah went to her while she was weeping and said: “Umar seeks permission to be buried alongside his two companions.” She replied: “I had reserved that place for myself, but today I shall give him preference over myself.”

He then returned. As he approached, Umar said: “Sit me up.” He then asked: “What news do you bring?” He replied: “Permission has been granted to you.” Umar said: “Allah is the Greatest! Nothing mattered more to me than that resting place. When I have died, carry me there and then say: ‘Umar seeks permission to enter.’ If she grants permission, bury me there; otherwise, return me to the Muslims’ cemetery.”

1862 — Abū Muhammad Yahyā ibn Muhammad ibn Sāid informed us of this. He said: Ishāq ibn Shāhīn, Abū Bishr al-Wāsitī, narrated to us. He said: Khālid ibn Abd Allah narrated to us, from Husayn, from Amr ibn Maymūn—the wording is that of Khālid ibn Abd Allah. He recounted the story of Umar’s killing—may Allah be pleased with him—and his final instructions, and then said: “O Abd Allah, go to the Mother of the Believers,” and he related the hadith.

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: All the reports I have cited corroborate one another and establish the truth that Abū Bakr and Umar—may Allah be pleased with them both—were buried alongside the Prophet—may Allah bless and grant him peace. Moreover, Allah the Generous has implanted certainty of this in the believers’ hearts; their hearts are reassured by it, and their souls find repose in it. Success comes through Allah, and we shall provide further reports concerning this.
