1851 — Abū Abdillāh Muhammad ibn Makhlad al-Attār narrated to us. He said: Muhammad ibn Yūsuf ibn Abī Mamar narrated to us. He said: Abdullāh ibn Muhammad ibn al-Mughīra al-Makhzūmī ⦗2372⦘ narrated to us. He said: Mālik ibn Mighwal narrated to us. He said: I heard Muhārib ibn Dithār say:
[Munsarih meter]
Does it not grieve you that our community,
When they quarreled, split their religion apart—
After the Prophet of guidance and his companion,
Al-Siddīq, and Umar, whom he approved?
Three men stood foremost; through their precedence,
Their Lord shall aid them when they are raised.
No Muslim blessed with true discernment
Denies their superiority when they are mentioned.
All three lived without division,
And were united in death when they were entombed.
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: I asked Abū Bakr Ahmad ibn Ghazāl, who was of good repute and was among the people of the Quran, grammar, and learning, as well as one of the companions of Abū Bakr ibn al-Anbārī, to recite to me some verses of his own composition about the burial of Abū Bakr and Umar—may Allah be pleased with them both—beside the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him. He recited to me:
[Wāfir meter]
Know that the Prophet and his two companions
Are like the twin Farqad stars, never parting.
To the Rāfidis’ dismay, they remained true to one another
And lived together in affection and accord.
Then, after their deaths, they all came together
To a grave that held them in its embrace.
They were returned to that from which they had been created,
And from it they shall be raised and driven onward.
So say to the Rāfidī: “Perish, you who set yourself
Against the foremost and virtuous in hatred and strife!
Truly, throughout all time, you shall be cast in chains;
At death you shall behold the evil of this,
And after death you shall be herded to the noose.
The love of the Prophet’s household is within my heart,
And the Prophet’s Companions are bound closely to me.
Through them we hope for deliverance from Hell,
Which is kindled to burn those who oppose;
And for triumph in the Gardens, in an eternal abode,
Where, on the Day of Meeting, we shall be welcomed with greetings.
This is clear, in gratitude to my Lord—
Established among the people of truth and enduring.”
