Chapter: The Burial of Abū Bakr and Umar—may Allah be pleased with them both—alongside the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said:

All whom Islam has embraced and whom Allah, the Most Generous, has allowed to taste the sweetness of faith agree that Abū Bakr and Umar—may Allah be pleased with them both—were buried alongside the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—in the chamber of Aisha—may Allah be pleased with her. This is not a matter requiring reports and transmitted chains of narration—so-and-so from so-and-so. Rather, it is a matter of common, public knowledge that neither scholar nor layman denies. Indeed, the renown of their burial alongside the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—renders the transmission of reports unnecessary.

The proof that this statement is sound is that every Muslim jurist, past or present, who has authored a work in his own name and included in it a Book of Pilgrimage Rites instructs anyone who comes to Medina—whether intending Hajj or Umrah, or intending neither but wishing to visit the grave of the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—and remain in Medina because of its virtue. All the scholars have instructed such a visitor, recorded this in their books, and taught him how to convey greetings of peace to the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—and how to convey greetings of peace to Abū Bakr and Umar—may Allah be pleased with them both: the scholars of the Hijāz, past and present; the scholars of Iraq, past and present; the scholars of Greater Syria, past and present; the scholars of Egypt, past and present; the scholars of Khurāsān, past and present; and the scholars of Yemen, past and present.
