1844 — Abū Bakr Qāsim ibn Zakariyyā al-Mutarriz narrated to us: Fadl ibn Sahl al-A‘raj narrated to us: ‘Abd al-‘Azīz narrated to us: ‘Abd al-Rahmān ibn Abī Bakr ibn Abī Mulayka narrated to us: My father informed me, from ‘Ubayd ibn ‘Umayr al-Laythī, who said:

When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, passed away, his Companions disagreed over where to bury him. Some said, “Bury him in al-Baqī‘,” while others said, “Bury him in the burial ground of his Companions.” Abū Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him—said, “It is not fitting to raise one’s voice over a Prophet, whether alive or dead.” ‘Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—then said, “Abū Bakr is trustworthy regarding the report he has brought.” Abū Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him—said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ⦗2365⦘ say: ‘No Prophet dies except that he is buried in the place where he died.’” They therefore buried the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in that very place.
