1842 — Abū Bakr ibn Abī Dāwud narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn ‘Abbād narrated to us, saying ⦗2362⦘: Bakr ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishāq, who said: Husayn ibn ‘Abd Allah also narrated to me, from ‘Ikrima, from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abbās, who gave an account of the death of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: On Tuesday, he was laid upon his bier in his home. The Muslims had disagreed about where to bury him. One person said, “We should bury him in his mosque,” while another said, “He should be buried alongside his Companions.”

Abū Bakr—may Allah be pleased with him—said, “I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: ‘No prophet has ever been taken in death except that he was buried where he died.’” The bedding upon which the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had died was therefore lifted, and his grave was dug beneath it.

The people then came in to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in groups: first the men, and when they had finished, the women entered; when they had finished, the children entered. No one led the people in the funeral prayer over the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was then buried around midnight on the night preceding Wednesday.
