1818 — Al-Firyābī narrated to us. He said: Mahmūd ibn Ghaylān al-Marwazī narrated to us. He said: Abd al-Razzāq narrated to us. He said: Maʿmar informed us, from Āsim, from Zirr, from Ali—may Allah be pleased with him—who said, “We did not consider it unlikely that the sakīna (divine tranquility) spoke through the tongue of Umar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him.”
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: When Ali—may Allah be pleased with him—recognized Umar’s virtues, and his excellent standing with Allah Most High and with His Messenger ﷺ, he gave him his daughter Umm Kulthūm—may Allah be pleased with her—in marriage. Her mother was Fātima, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ—may Allah’s good pleasure be upon Fātima. She bore Umar children, and Umar—may Allah be pleased with him—was indeed killed while she was still his wife—may Allah be pleased with her.
