1815 — Abū Bakr also narrated to us. He said: Muhammad ibn Rizq Allah al-Kalwadhānī narrated to us. He said: Abū Badr Shujā ibn al-Walīd narrated to us. He said: Khalaf ibn Hawshab narrated to us, from Abū al-Safar, who said: Ali ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—was seen wearing a mantle that he wore frequently. He said: He was asked, “O Commander of the Faithful, why do you wear this mantle so often?” He replied ⦗2328⦘, “Yes. This was given to me to wear by my intimate and chosen friend, Umar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him.” Then he said, “Umar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him—was true to Allah, and Allah was true to him.” Then he wept.
