1808 — Abū Saīd al-Mufaddal ibn Muhammad al-Jandī informed us in the Sacred Mosque. He said: Abū Huma Muhammad ibn Yūsuf narrated to us. He said: Abd al-Razzāq narrated to us. He said: Al-Thawrī narrated to us, from Jāmi ibn Abī Rāshid, from Abū Yalā, from Ibn al-Hanafiyya—may Allah be pleased with him—who said: I asked my father, “Father, who is the best of people after the Messenger of Allah—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him?” He replied, “My son, Abū Bakr.” He said: I asked, “Then who, Father?” He replied, “Then Umar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him.” He said: I was afraid to ask a third time lest he name Uthman in reply, so I asked, “Then you, Father?” He replied, “My ⦗2324⦘ son, your father is but one of the Muslims.”
