1807 — Abū Muhammad Abd Allāh ibn Nājiya informed us. He said: Al-Hasan ibn ⦗2323⦘ Arafa, Ziyād ibn Ayyūb, and Muhammad ibn Abī al-Walīd al-Fahhām narrated to us. They said: Al-Nadr ibn Ismāīl Abū al-Mughīra narrated to us. He said: Muhammad ibn Sūqa narrated to us, from Mundhir al-Thawrī, from Ibn al-Hanafiyya, who said: I asked my father—may Allah be pleased with him—“Father, who is the best of people after the Messenger of Allah—may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him?” He replied, “My son, do you not know?” I said, “No.” He said, “Abū Bakr.” I asked, “Father, then who?” He replied, “Do you not know?” I said, “No.” He said, “Then Umar.” He continued: I then promptly asked, “Father, are you the third?” He replied, “My son, your father is merely one of the Muslims, with the same rights and obligations as they have.”
