1795 — Abū Muhammad ibn Sāid also narrated to us. He said: Ubayd Allah ibn Sad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Sad al-Zuhrī narrated to us. He said: My paternal uncle—meaning Yaqūb ibn Ibrāhīm—narrated to us. He said: Sallām Abū Abd Allah al-Tamīmī narrated to us—according to Ibn Sāid, he was Ibn Salmān al-Tawīl al-Madāinī—from Zayd al-Ammī, from Abū al-Siddīq al-Nājī, from Abū Said al-Khudrī, ⦗2310⦘ who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:

“Of this nation, the most merciful toward its people is Abū Bakr; the strongest among them in Allah’s religion is Umar; the truest among them in modesty is Uthmān; the finest judge among them is Alī; the most proficient among them in reciting the Book of Allah—Mighty and Majestic—is Ubayy ibn Kab; the most knowledgeable among them about the prescribed shares of inheritance is Zayd ibn Thābit; and the trustworthy man of this nation is Abū Ubayda ibn al-Jarrāh. Muādh ibn Jabal is the person most knowledgeable about what Allah has made lawful and unlawful; Abū Hurayra is a vessel of knowledge; and Salmān is an unsurpassable luminary.”

He also mentioned Abū Dharr’s truthfulness—may Allah be pleased with them all.

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn said: I have mentioned whatever has reached us of the virtues of the ten to whom Allah the Generous attested His good pleasure, forgiveness, and Paradise, and to whom the Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—attested Paradise before passing away while pleased with them, insofar as I was able to include it. Their merit is immense. May Allah be pleased with them and with every member of the household of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and may He benefit us through our love for them.
