1786 — Abū Shuʿayb ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Hasan al-Harrānī narrated to us, saying: My grandfather, Ahmad ibn Abī Shuʿayb, narrated to me, saying: Muhammad ibn Salama narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishāq, from Makhūl, from Kurayb, the client of Ibn ʿAbbās, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: I heard ʿUmar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him—say to ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn ʿAwf, regarding a hadith about which he had questioned him: “Come and relate it to us, for in our view you are trustworthy and approved.” … And he mentioned the hadith.
