1782 — Abū Bakr Qāsim ibn Zakariyyā al-Mutarriz narrated to us, saying: Suwayd ibn ⦗2298⦘ Saʿīd narrated to us, saying: ʿAlī ibn Mushir narrated to us, from Hishām ibn ʿUrwa, from his father, who said: Arwā bint Aws brought a claim against Saʿīd ibn Zayd before Marwān ibn al-Hakam. She said, “He has encroached upon my land and added it to his own.” Saʿīd said, “Would I encroach upon her land and add it to mine? I bear witness concerning the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—that I indeed heard him say, ‘Whoever wrongfully takes a handspan of land will be made to wear it as a collar from seven earths on the Day of Resurrection.’”

Marwān said to him, “By Allah, we shall not press you any further about it after this”—meaning that he believed him and held Saʿīd in high esteem. He said: Saʿīd then supplicated against her, saying, “O Allah, she has wronged me, so take away her sight and cause her to die on her own land.” She lost her sight, and while she was walking on her land, she fell into a well and died.
