Chapter: The Obligation upon All Believers to Love the Banū Hāshim, the Household of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn (may Allah have mercy on him) said: It is incumbent upon every believing man and woman to love the household of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): the Banū Hāshim—Ali ibn Abī Tālib, his children and descendants; Fātima, her children and descendants; al-Hasan and al-Husayn, their children and her descendants; Ja'far al-Tayyār, his children and descendants; Hamza and his children; and al-Abbās, his children and descendants—may Allah be pleased with them all.
These are the household of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). Muslims are obliged to love and honor them, bear patiently with them, treat them with kindness and tact, remain patient with them, and pray for them. Whoever among their children and descendants conducts himself well has adopted the character of his noble, virtuous, and righteous forebears. If any of them adopts unbecoming character traits, prayers should be made that he be granted righteousness, moral protection, and well-being. People of reason and good manners should treat him in the best possible way and say to him: “We hold you in too high esteem for you to adopt character traits that do not resemble those of your noble and righteous forebears. We are too protective of your honor to accept that someone like you should adopt conduct which you know your noble and righteous forebears would not approve. Part of our love for you is that we wish you to cultivate the character most befitting you—noble and generous character.” Allah alone grants success in this.
