1748 — Abū al-Qāsim Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Baghawī also informed us, saying: Al-Zubayr ibn Bakkār narrated to us, saying: Sāida ibn Ubayd Allah al-Muzanī narrated to me, from Dāwūd ibn Atā, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Ibn Umar, who said: Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, would summon Abd Allah ibn Abbās, may Allah be pleased with them both, draw him close, and say: “I once saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, call you over, stroke your head, and spit into your mouth. He then said: ‘O Allah, grant him understanding of the religion and teach him interpretation.’”
