181 — Abū ʿAbd Allāh Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Shāhīn narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar al-Kūfī narrated to us, saying: Ishāq ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, from Muʿāwiya ibn Yahyā, from al-Zuhrī, from Muhammad ibn ʿUbāda ibn al-Sāmit, who said: I entered upon my father, and he said, “Come near, my son. I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: ‘Indeed, the first thing Allah created was the Pen. He said, “Write.” It asked, “What shall I write?” He said, “Write the divine decree.” At that very moment, it proceeded to record everything ⦗517⦘ that would occur until the Day of Resurrection.’” This hadith has numerous chains of transmission.
