17 — Abū Shu‘ayb ‘Abdullah ibn al-Hasan al-Harrānī informed us, saying: My grandfather narrated to us, saying: Mūsā ibn A‘yan narrated to us, from Ismā‘īl ibn Abī Khālid, from Mujālid ibn Sa‘īd, from al-Sha‘bī, from Thābit ibn Qutba, who reported that ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ūd said in his sermon:

“O people, hold fast to obedience and the united community, for it is the rope of Allah that He commanded you to hold fast to. What you dislike within the united community is better than what you love amid division.”
