1711 — And Ibn Abī Dāwūd narrated to us; he said: Muhammad ibn Musaffā narrated to us; he said: Marwān ibn Muhammad narrated to us; he said: Abd Allah ibn Jaʿfar al-Makhramī narrated to us; he said: Umm Bakr bint al-Miswar narrated to me, from her father, al-Miswar, who said: The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said: “Every line of descent will be severed on the Day of Resurrection, and every tie of kinship by marriage will be severed except mine.” ⦗2229⦘
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: When Umar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him—heard this from the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—he asked Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—for the hand of his daughter Umm Kulthūm—may Allah be pleased with her. Her mother was Fātima, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—and she was a very young girl. Alī—may Allah be pleased with him—said to him: “I have reserved her for the son of my brother Jaʿfar—may Allah be pleased with them—and she is still a young girl.” Umar then sent word to him: “Even if she is young, I heard the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—say: ‘Every line of descent and every tie of kinship by marriage will be severed on the Day of Resurrection except my lineage and my ties of kinship by marriage.’ That is why I seek her hand.” Alī therefore gave her to him in marriage. May Allah be pleased with Umar, Alī, and the household of the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him.
