1702 — Abū Hafs Umar ibn Ayyūb al-Saqatī narrated to us, saying: Bishr ibn al-Walīd the judge narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Talha narrated to us, from al-A‘mash, from Atiyya ibn Sa‘d, from Abū Sa‘īd al-Khudrī, that the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—said: “I expect that I shall soon be summoned and will answer the call. I am leaving among you two weighty legacies: the Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and my kindred. The Book of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is a rope extending from heaven to earth, and my kindred are the members of my household. The All-Subtle, the All-Aware has informed me that the two will never part until they come to me at the Reservoir. So consider how you will succeed me in your treatment of them.”
