1698 – Ibn Abī Dāwūd also narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ⦗2211⦘ Umar ibn Yūnus narrated to us; Umar ibn Yūnus narrated to us, saying: Sulaymān ibn Abī Sulaymān al-Zuhrī narrated to us, saying: Yahyā ibn Abī Kathīr narrated to us, saying: Al-Awzāī narrated to us, saying: Shaddād ibn Abd Allah narrated to me, saying:
I heard Wāthila ibn al-Asqa when the head of al-Husayn—may Allah be pleased with him—had been brought. A man spoke of him, whereupon Wāthila became angry and said, “By Allah, I shall never cease loving Alī, al-Hasan, al-Husayn, and Fātima—may Allah be pleased with them—after hearing the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—speak concerning them while he was in the house of Umm Salama.”
Wāthila continued: “I remember coming one day to the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—in the house of Umm Salama. Al-Hasan entered, so he seated him upon his right thigh ⦗2212⦘ and kissed him. Then al-Husayn came, so he seated him upon his left thigh and kissed him. Fātima then came, and he seated her before him. He then sent for Alī—may Allah be pleased with them—and he came. The Prophet then spread a cloak from Khaybar fully over them—as though I can still see it—and said:
“Allah only intends to remove impurity from you, O people of the household, and to purify you completely.”
“I asked Wāthila, ‘What is impurity?’ He replied, ‘Doubt concerning Allah—Majestic is His Glory.’”
