1697 – Abū Muhammad Abd Allah ibn Sālih al-Bukhārī informed us, saying: Al-Hasan ibn Alī al-Hulwānī narrated to us, saying: Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Malik ibn Abī Sulaymān narrated to us, from Atā, from Umm Salama; and from Dāwūd ibn Abī Awf, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Umm Salama; and from Abū Laylā al-Kindī, from Umm Salama—may Allah have mercy on her—who said:

While the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—was in my house upon a sleeping couch of his, over which a cloak from Khaybar had been spread, ⦗2210⦘ Fātima—may Allah be pleased with her—came to him carrying a cooking pot containing a meat-and-flour stew. The Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—said to her, “Call your husband and your two sons.”

She said: She called them, and they gathered around the pot and began eating from it. Then the verse was revealed:

“Allah only intends to remove impurity from you, O people of the household, and to purify you completely.” [al-Ahzāb: 33]

The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—then took the loose end of the cloak and covered them with it. He extended his hand toward heaven and said, “O Allah, these are my household and my nearest kin. Remove impurity from them and purify them completely.”

She said: I put my head inside the garment and asked, “O Messenger of Allah, am I with you?” He replied, “You are destined for good; you are destined for good.”

She said: There were five of them: the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—Alī, Fātima, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn—may Allah be pleased with them all.
