1681 — Abū Abdullāh Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Abd al-Jabbār al-Sūfī narrated to us, saying: Umar ibn Ismā'īl ibn Mujālid narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to us, from Mujālid, from al-Sha'bī, from Masrūq, from Aisha—may Allah be pleased with her—who said:
“The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—would hardly ever leave the house without mentioning Khadīja and speaking highly of her. One day, he mentioned her, and jealousy overcame me, so I said, ‘Was she anything but an old woman? Allah—Glorious and Exalted is He—has given you someone better in her place.’ He became so angry that his forelock shook. Then he said, ⦗2194⦘ ‘No, by Allah! Allah has not given me anyone better in her place. She believed in me when the people disbelieved in me; she believed me when the people denied me; she supported me with her wealth when the people withheld from me; and Allah—Glorious and Exalted is He—blessed me with children through her while withholding from me children by other women.’”
Aisha—may Allah be pleased with her—said, “I resolved within myself never again to speak ill of her.”
