The Virtues of Khadīja, the Mother of the Believers—may Allah be pleased with her
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: “Allah is praised in every circumstance, and Allah’s Messenger is the Chosen One—may Allah bless him and his pure family and grant them peace.”
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn said: “Know—may Allah have mercy on us and you—that Khadīja, the Mother of the Believers—may Allah be pleased with her—possesses immense virtue and an exalted rank. Allah, the Exalted and Magnificent, honored her by making her the wife of His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. She was blessed through him with noble children and bore him Fātima al-Zahrāʾ, the very heart of Allah’s Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, held Khadīja in the highest esteem, frequently spoke of her, became angry on her behalf, and praised her, thereby honoring her. When the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was sent forth, she was his wife, and she was the first woman to embrace Islam. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, would tell her what he experienced of revelation, and she would reassure him and affirm to him: ‘You are indeed a prophet, and you are honored in the sight of Allah.’
“He would worship his Lord, Glorious and Majestic, on Mount Hirā, while she supplied him with provisions, assisted him in worshipping his Lord, Glorious and Majestic, and surrounded him with everything he loved. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, therefore gave her glad tidings of the honor Allah had prepared for her in Paradise. Allah, Glorious and Majestic, commanded him to give her glad tidings of a house in Paradise made of qasab—that is, hollow pearl.
“He, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: ‘Khadīja bint Khuwaylid is the foremost lady among the women of her time.’
“He, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, also said: ‘Sufficient for you, among all the women of the world, are Maryam bint ʿImrān, Khadīja bint Khuwaylid, Fātima, daughter of Allah’s Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and Āsiya, the wife of Pharaoh.’
“May Allah be pleased with her and with her blessed descendants. I shall cite reports demonstrating what I have said, if Allah wills.”
