1670 — Abu Muhammad Ja‘far ibn Ahmad ibn ‘Asim al-Dimashqī narrated to us, saying: Hāshim ibn Khālid al-Azraq narrated to us, saying: Khālid ibn Yazīd narrated to us, saying: Abu Janāb narrated to us, from Yahyā al-Hamdānī, who said:
“On a moonlit night, I left my home to attend to a need at the burial ground. There I came upon women dressed in white, holding turbans in their hands, weeping and lamenting. He said: I remembered these words of theirs:
‘O eye, pour forth and do not run dry
for the fallen one, the noble lord.
In al-Shām, by evening he lay slain;
that morning, an event arose and laid him low.’
“He said: Then they departed, and I saw them no more. He said: I returned home, awakened my family, and called for a tablet. I wrote these verses upon it lest I forget them. When morning came, I related them to others. He said: By Allah, no more than nine days passed before news arrived of the death of al-Husayn, may Allah be pleased with him.”
