1660 — Abū Muhammad ‘Abd Allāh ibn Muhammad ibn Nājiya informed us: Wahb ibn Baqiyya al-Wāsitī narrated to us: Khālid ibn ‘Abd Allāh al-Wāsitī narrated to us, from Sadaqah ibn al-Muthannā, from Rabāh ibn al-Hārith, who said:
After ‘Alī—may Allah be pleased with him—died, the people gathered around al-Hasan ibn ‘Alī—may Allah be pleased with them both. He addressed them, praising Allah—Mighty and Majestic—and extolling Him. He then said:
“Everything that is to come is near. Allah’s decree will surely come to pass; none can avert it, though people may dislike it. I would not wish to assume even a mustard seed’s weight of authority over the community of Muhammad—peace and blessings be upon him—if a cupping-glassful of blood were to be shed for it. I know what benefits me and what harms me, so go your way of your own free will.”
