170 — Abū al-Qāsim Abd Allāh ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Azīz related to us, saying ⦗504⦘: Hanbal ibn Ishāq related to us, saying: I heard Abū Abd Allāh Ahmad ibn Hanbal when Yaʿqūb al-Dawraqī asked him about someone who said, “The Quran is created.” He replied, “Whoever claims that Allah’s knowledge and names are created has disbelieved. Allah Most High says, ‘Then whoever disputes with you concerning him after the knowledge that has come to you’ [Āl Imrān: 61]. Is this not the Quran? Thus, whoever claims that Allah’s knowledge, names, and attributes are created is a disbeliever—there is no doubt about that—provided that he holds this belief, that it is his view and doctrine, and that he adopts it as a religion. Such a person is, in our judgment, a disbeliever.”
