The Book of the Virtues of al-Hasan and al-Husayn—may Allah be pleased with them both
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: Praise be to Allah, who is praised in every circumstance, and may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon the Chosen One, the Messenger of Allah, and upon all his family.
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn said: Know—may Allah have mercy on us and you—that al-Hasan and al-Husayn—may Allah be pleased with them both—are of immense standing, sublime rank, and great virtue. Of all people, al-Hasan and al-Husayn—may Allah be pleased with them both—most resembled Allah’s Messenger—may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him—in appearance and character. They are his good, pure, and blessed progeny, and two pieces of his own flesh. Their mother is Fātima al-Zahrā, the very heart of Allah’s Messenger—may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him—and a part of him. Their father is the Commander of the Believers, Alī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—the brother of the Messenger of the Lord of the worlds—may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him—his cousin, his son-in-law through marriage to his daughter, his supporter, the one who relieved his distress, and one beloved to Allah and His Messenger.
Allah the Generous thus united in al-Hasan and al-Husayn—may Allah be pleased with them both—immense nobility and abundant distinction in every respect. They are the two fragrant blossoms of Allah’s Messenger—may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him—and the leaders of the youth of Paradise. We shall mention the virtues that come to my mind here in Mecca—virtues that will bring joy to the eyes of every believer who loves them, and by which Allah Almighty will make the eyes of every vile Nāsibī who hates them burn with grief. May Allah hate whoever hates them.
