Al-Shariah li-al-AjurriAl-Ajurri

1618 — Abū Ahmad Hārūn ibn Yūsuf narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abī ⦗2134⦘ Umar al-Adanī narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Razzāq narrated to us, from Ma‘mar, from Ayyūb, from Abū Yazīd al-Madīnī and Ikrima—or one of the two—from Asmā bint Umays, who said:

When Fātima was escorted as a bride to Alī—may Allah be pleased with them both—nothing was found in his house except sand spread over the floor, a cushion stuffed with palm fiber, a cup, and a jar. The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—sent word to him, saying, “Do not approach your wife until I come to you.”

The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then came and asked, “Is my brother there?” Umm Ayman said, “Is he your brother, though you have married your daughter to him?” He replied, “That can indeed be so, Umm Ayman.”

She continued: The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then called for a vessel containing water and said over it whatever Allah willed him to say. He then sprinkled some of it upon Alī’s face and chest—peace be upon him. He next called Fātima—may Allah be pleased with her—and she rose and approached him, stumbling over her wrap out of modesty. He sprinkled some of that water upon her and said whatever Allah willed him to say.

She continued: The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then saw a dark figure behind the door—or behind the curtain—and asked, “Who is this?” She replied, “Asmā.” He asked, “Asmā bint Umays?” She replied, “Yes, O Messenger of Allah.” He asked, “Have you come to be with the daughter of Allah’s Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—out of respect for Allah’s Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace?” She replied, “Yes. A young bride must have a woman with her.”

She continued: He then offered a supplication for me, and I regard it as the surest of all that I possess. She said: He then went out and departed, continuing to supplicate for them both until he disappeared into his chamber—may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
