1617 — Ibn Makhlad also narrated to us, saying: Abū al-Hasan Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Anas ibn al-Qarbītī narrated to us, saying: Ma‘bad ibn Amr of Busra narrated to us, saying: Ja‘far ibn Sulaymān al-Duba‘ī narrated to us, saying: Ja‘far ibn Muhammad informed me, from his forefathers—peace be upon them. He recounted at length the story of Fātima’s marriage—may Allah be pleased with her—up to the night she was escorted to her husband, together with the story of Asmā bint Umays. Asmā said to him:
“O Messenger of Allah, older and wealthy men of Quraysh sought her hand from you, yet you did not marry her to any of them, and instead married her to this young man?”
He replied, “Asmā, you will marry this young man and bear him a son.”
He said: When night came, the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—sent for Salmān the Persian and said, “Salmān, bring me my gray mule.” He brought him his gray mule, and he mounted Fātima—may Allah be pleased with her—upon it. Salmān led the mule, while the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—guided it from behind. As they proceeded in this manner, he heard a sound behind him. He turned and saw Gabriel, Michael, Isrāfīl, and a great host of angels.
He asked, “Gabriel, what has brought you down?”
They replied, “We have descended to escort Fātima to her husband.”
Gabriel proclaimed Allah’s greatness, followed by Michael, then Isrāfīl, then the angels, then the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and then Salmān. Thus, from that night onward, proclaiming Allah’s greatness behind brides became a sunnah.
He brought her there, and Alī—may Allah be pleased with him—took her inside and seated her beside himself upon a Qatari mat. He then said, “Alī, this is ⦗2133⦘ my daughter. Whoever honors her has honored me, and whoever humiliates her has humiliated me.”
He then said, “O Allah, bless them both and grant them wholesome offspring. You are truly the Hearer of supplication.”
He then rose 0000, and he related the hadith.
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: By Allah, He did indeed bless them both. He blessed their two sons and all their virtuous, blessed descendants—peace be upon them all—whom none but a believer loves and none but a hypocrite detests.
